China is said to be short of 100,000,000 women. This is the result of the one child policy which
has been in place for almost three decades. Families tend to want a boy to help in the fields and
to look after them in their old age. The girl babies seem to disappear.
An alternative idea might have been to allow families to have as many children as they wished
until they had a boy. The result would be equal boys and girls (as at conception) and a declining
population.
Maybe the shortage of women was actually palled as a way of reducing the population more
rapidly.
